IPOH: A meeting to discuss water transfer between Perak and Penang will be held on Tuesday (March 1), says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The Perak Mentri Besar says the meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was expected to begin at 3pm.
“We are unsure what Chow will present during the meeting.
“We will see what he has to say before deciding on anything,” he told reporters at his office at the State Secretariat Building here Tuesday.
On Feb 21, Chow said a meeting between him and Saarani would be held to discuss Phase 1 of the Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme (SPRWTS) project.
Separately, Saarani said Perak would not be sending any assistance to help with the flood-hit areas in the east coast.
“Unlike the floods in Selangor previously, there were no requests made for us to send help.
“I was told that the situation in the affected areas is getting better, therefore we believe it is not necessary to send help.
“Perhaps the affected state already has enough assets to handle the situation,” he said.
On Feb 26, Bernama reported that the flood situation in Terengganu and Kelantan had worsened, with more than 5,000 people evacuated to temporary relief centres.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is scheduled to visit the affected areas on Wednesday (March 2).
