Covid-19: Active cases decline as recoveries outnumber new infections on Tuesday (March 29)

       KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 24,154 Covid-19 recovery cases were recorded on Tuesday (March 29), which is higher than the number of new cases - 15,215 - detected for the day, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic).

       This brings the number of people who recovered from the virus in the country so far to 3,920,643, he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 30).

       On the new cases recorded on Tuesday, he said, 906 cases were admitted to hospital, with 348 of them, or 38.4 per cent, in categories three, four and five, while 558 cases or 61.6 per cent in categories one and two.

       On the use of health facilities, especially involving Covid-19 cases, Dr Noor Hisham said three states recorded usage of more than 50 per cent of beds in the Intensive care Unit (ICU), with Putrajaya at 67 per cent, Selangor (53 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (50 per cent).

       None of the states recorded more than 50 per cent usage of beds at the Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC), he added.

       He said the number of Covid-19 patients in need of ventilator support increased to 176 patients.

       According to Dr Noor Hisham, two new clusters have been identified bringing the total number of active clusters to 214.

       On the infectivity rate or Rt value, he said, it was 0.89 nationwide, with Selangor still recording the highest rate of 1.05 and Sabah the lowest at 0.66.- Bernama
