PETALING JAYA: Some 6.2kg ganja worth RM22,943 were seized following raids in the district and Kuala Lumpur.
Four men were detained in the raids conducted on Tuesday (June 29).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police arrested two men and inspected their car at the parking lot of a supermarket in Taman Maju Jaya at about 2.20pm on Tuesday.
"We seized 1kg of ganja, a set of keys and RM5,000 cash. Both tested positive for ganja," he told a press conference at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Thursday (July 1).
Further investigations led police to two other men at an apartment in Taman Pasir Permata in Kuala Lumpur at about 6.15pm on Tuesday, he added.
"We seized about 5.1kg of ganja and several items including a car and a motorcycle," he said.
ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the syndicate had been active for about a year.
"The ganja seized in both raids is about 6.2kg.
"It could have been supplied to 6,200 addicts," he said.
The suspects have past criminal records and they have been remanded for seven days, he added.
"We believe the apartment is being used for packaging the drugs before it is distributed.
"We will continue to investigate and uncover the extent of the syndicate," he said.
