PETALING JAYA: The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has rejected Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's bipartisan offer and demanded his resignation as Prime Minister.
It said the special address by Muhyiddin earlier Friday evening (Aug 13) was an admission that he has lost the majority support in Parliament, and according to Article 43(4) of the Constitution, he must resign.
"This is the first time in Malaysian history where a prime minister admitted he lost the majority support and yet he openly tries to entice support from the Opposition,” it said in a joint statement.
The joint statement was signed by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Parti Amanah Negara presidenr Mohamad Sabu.
The Pakatan presidential council also accused Muhyiddin of overruling the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the appointment of prime ministers when the Pagoh MP remarked that no other MP commanded the sufficient majority in Parliament.
It said Pakatan strongly rejects every insincere offer made by Muhyiddin, adding that the focus should be placed on saving the people, not his political career.
The Pakatan presidential council also said it chose to stand by Malaysians who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We are confident that we are able to propose better plans, especially to address the Covid-19 pandemic, revive the economy and to save the rakyat and their sources of income," it added.
Earlier Friday, Muhyiddin, in a special address, had sought bipartisan support from the Opposition, saying that such support is crucial to bring the nation out of the political crisis.
Muhyiddin said if the Opposition agrees to bipartisan support, a special Dewan Rakyat sitting will be convened soon to table a confidence motion.
Muhyiddin had also assured that he will make decisions that are honourable and constitutional in his attempt to solve the ongoing political crisis.
