KUCHING: DAP has lost Pujut and Pelawan – two seats it won in the 2016 Sarawak election – in what is shaping up to be a bad night for the party.

DAP’s two-term Pelawan assemblyman David Wong lost by 100 votes to GPS’ Michael Tiang, who polled 4,413 votes.

In 2016, Wong won in Pelawan with a 4,314-vote majority.

In Pujut, GPS’ Adam Yii Siew Sang, who is also Miri Mayor, won after garnering 5,558 votes, a 1,566-vote majority after over DAP’s Alan Ling with 3,992 votes, followed by Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s Bruce Chai Khim Cheong (1,667), Parti Bumi Kenyalang's Leslie Ting Siong Ngipa (1,022) and Sarawak People’s Aspiration (152).

The Pujut state seat was left vacant in February last year following the disqualification of DAP’s Dr Ting Tiong Choon as assemblyman for having simultaneous Australian and Malaysian citizenship.

There are 27,567 registered voters in Pujut. In the previous 2016 state election, DAP’s Dr Ting won with a majority of 1,759 votes over Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Hii Kiong Chiong.
