SEREMBAN: A lorry driver has been remanded for seven days for allegedly offering and giving a RM500 bribe to a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli issued the order following an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya.

The man, who is in his 20s, was detained when he went to have his statement recorded at the MACC office in Port Dickson on Wednesday (Jan 24).

He had allegedly offered and given the bribe after he was stopped for driving without a valid driving licence and a Goods Driving Licence (GDL) at around 10.40am in Lukut on the same day.

The lorry also did not have a valid road tax, insurance cover and had not been taken to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for periodic inspection.

The suspect was represented by Fatrimahwati Mehemad Osman from the Legal Aid Bureau.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
