KUALA LUMPUR: Copper product manufacturer Ta Win Holdings Bhd 's subsidiary has commenced construction on Malaysia's first local privately owned electron beam irradiation plant.
The facility will be located at the subsidiary Cyprium Wire Technology Sdn Bhd's existing manufacturing facilities in Alor Gajah Industria Estate in Melaka and is targeted for completion by April 2022.
Under an agreement, CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator Technology Co Ltd will advise and manage the project as well as build and commission the plant.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry has been appointed the nuclear science expert to provide technical evaluation and consultation services during the commissioning and operation of the electron beam irradiation systems.
"Once completed, the electron beam irradiation plant will expand our capabilities to meet the growing global needs of the electric vehicle segment by supplying irradiated cross-linked wire and cable products utilising the patented electron beam cross-linked technology.
"This will enable us to develop advanced technological solutions and highly engineered products for a wide range of industries," said Ta Win group managing director Datuk Seri Ngu Tieng Ung.
He added that the group will be establishing two additional plants, with all three slated to be fully completed within 24 months.
According to Ta Win, the electron beam irradiation plant will have a maximum production capacity of 420km of irradiation cross-linked wire and cable products per day, equipped with automated controls and line speed accelerator beam synchronisation.
The products are certified green products in compliance with REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), an essential certification in the international wire and cable industry.
