SEREMBAN (Bernama): A part-time food delivery rider did not expect to score a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0 in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results announced on Thursday (July 1).

       Muhammad Izzuddin Amirrudin (pic), 20, who started working as a rider for GrabFood two months ago said he checked the results online while waiting to pick up a customer’s order at a restaurant.

       Aspiring to be a lawyer so that he can serve society, Muhammad Izzudin said he hopes to pursue a degree in law at Universiti Malaya.

       "I was elated that had scored 4As and a CGPA of 4.0, and I am very happy that all my hard work and sacrifices paid off.

       "My parents consistently encouraged and motivated me so that I could face the exam confidently especially during this Covid-19 pandemic. I am also thankful to the teachers who taught us tirelessly and shared their knowledge with me and my friends,” he told Bernama here on Friday (July 2).

       The ex-student of SMK Taman Forest Heights said the home-based teaching and learning programme (PdPR) was one of the challenges in his studies because he needed time to familiarise himself with learning without face-to-face interaction with teachers and his friends.

       "Poor Internet access was also a problem with PdPR. There were times when I lost hope but with my parents’ support, I was able to regain my spirit and studied as hard as I could,” he said.

       The second of six siblings said among the recipes for his success was diligent revision, doing research on the Internet to get additional information on the subjects and setting aside two to three hours a day to study.

       Sharing his experience as a food delivery rider, Muhammad Izzuddin said he learnt a lot about the multi-ethnic society and also helped him to become a more mature person.

       He said working part-time come rain or shine also helped to strengthen his self-confidence and mental and physical well-being.- Bernama
