JOHOR has received more than 50,000 books to help primary school pupils read, write and count better, says state education, information, heritage and culture committee chairman Mazlan Bujang.

       “The Johor Education Department has done much to address the problem among Level 1 students (Years One to Three) with reading, writing and arithmetic (3M) proficiency.

       “Pupils are provided with appropriate modules according to the current level of the National Reco-very Plan to ensure the home-based teaching and learning process is implemented as planned,” he said in his reply to Nor Rashidah Ramli (Barisan-Parit Raja) yesterday.

       He added that the department is using the Focused Literacy and Numeracy Module developed by the Teacher Education Institute for 40 pilot schools; and the Literacy and Numeracy Rehabilitation Module, under the Education Ministry’s PerkasaKU initiative involving all primary schools.

       “Johor received 51,519 copies of the Literacy and Numeracy Improvement Module, which have been handed over to Level 1 students who have 3M proficiency problems,” he said.

       Mazlan said the distribution was carried out at the end of October.

       “This is to ensure these modules are used to the maximum in accelerating the process of mastering 3M skills among students,” he said.
