KOTA KINABALU: A 10-year-old boy has been found dead a day after he was last seen attacked by a crocodile in Lahad Datu on Saturday (Nov 6) morning.
The boy, who had gone to a river at Kg Bakau Lama to catch prawns with two of his friends, was said to have been dragged into the water by the reptile.
“He had apparently managed to pull free from the reptile and was scrambling to get to shore but was again dragged into the river,” said Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue station chief, Sumsoa Rashid on Sunday (Nov 7).
He said this information was obtained from witnesses to the incident.
“Our team was sent to search for the victim after he was dragged into the water but his body was only discovered at 6.41am, Sunday,” he said.
Villagers were the ones who first saw the boy’s floating body, some 700m from where he was last seen, Sumsoa said.
There were bite marks on his legs when retrieved but the rest of the body was intact.
His body has been surrendered to the police for further action.
