A Near West Side man was charged with first-degree murder and ordered held without bail Friday in the shooting death of a 26-year-old woman in Englewood last fall, Chicago police said.

Bryan Tart, 36, of the 2300 block of West Washington Boulevard, was extradited Thursday from Kokomo, Indiana, by the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged in the October 2020 death of 26-year-old Rodjzae Funches-Heard, according to police.

Cook County Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Tart be held without bail Friday.

At the bond hearing, prosecutor James Murphy said Tart was involved in a verbal and physical altercation outside a party in the early hours of Oct. 18, 2020, in the 7500 block of South Emerald Avenue when he pulled out a gun and shot Funches-Heard in the face.

Funches-Heard, of Bellwood, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and later died from the gunshot wound, which entered from her lower lip, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Murphy said a second defendant charged in the shooting was heard by a witness encouraging Tart to shoot Funches-Heard. The name of the second defendant — a woman — was not given in court nor was the charge against her.

Tart faces up to a life sentence. His next court date is July 29.
