KOTA KINABALU: State Customs officials confiscated over RM300,000 worth of contraband beer following a raid near here recently.
Sabah Customs Department principal assistant director Datuk Abdullah Jaapar said in the Sept 11 raid, their officials seized a total of 2,184 cartons of beer from a storage unit HSK Bundusan, Penampang.
He said the seized items were worth about RM 336,656, including RM 272,140 in unpaid taxes.
He said they had acted based on tip-offs from the public, as well as surveillance works conducted prior to the 5pm raid.
Abdullah said no suspects were nabbed in this raid.
On the modus operandi of the suspects, he said they used unmarked and unnamed storage units to hide the contraband, before taking them out for the local market to sell.
This case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
Abdullah called on the public to continue being the eyes and ears of the authorities and to help in the bid to fight against criminal activities in Sabah.
