The increase, based on police figures in England and Wales, equates to an extra 3,600 burglaries and about £169million of goods being stolen, insurer Churchill said.
The company also found that more than half of people worry about going back to work and leaving the house empty.
And one in five have spent more time out of their homes since lockdown while a similar proportion are taking a holiday of a week or more this summer.
Head of Churchill home insurance Steven Williams said: “We may have become complacent about home security as we have spent so much time there.”
He urged families to check security before going away.
