PONTIAN: The body of a fisherman who had been missing since Thursday (June 2) has been found near Sungai Pontian Besar here.
Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the body of 56-year-old Abu Bakar Mohd was found by local fishermen involved in a search and rescue operation at about 9.40am on Saturday (June 4).
“The body was found floating about 3.2 nautical miles from Sungai Pontian Besar estuary. He was among two fishermen who went missing on Thursday evening.
“The body of the other fisherman Mohd Khalid, 60, was found at the same location at about 12.45pm on Wednesday (June 3),” he said in a statement.
First Admiral Nurul Hizam said the two fishermen did not return home after going out on Thursday.
He also urged the fishing community to be extra cautious while in the sea and to call MERS 999 for any emergencies.
