KEPALA BATAS: A Sungai Petani man who recorded a video showing a pair of handcuffs with the intention to scare another man was arrested for impersonating a police officer.
State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Asst Comm Rahimi Ra'ais said the suspect was arrested after the victim lodged a police report on Tuesday (Feb 15).
"Investigation revealed that the suspect is in his 30's and is believed to have recorded the video with the intention to intimidate and wanted the victim to respect him following a problem faced by both of them in relation to a house rental issue," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
SAC Rahimi said police confiscated a handphone that was used by the suspect to record the footage, along with a pair of handcuffs and a handcuff key.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both and Section 89 of the Police Act 1967 for unlawful possession and unauthorised use of police uniforms which carries an RM500 fine or a six-month jail term or both upon conviction.
"The public is warned not to impersonate a public servant because it is a criminal offence," he said.
