SUNGAI PETANI: Police have arrested a 36-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting of a man in front of his family in Taman Intan on Wednesday (May 25).

       Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk G. Suresh Kumar said the suspect was now remanded to facilitate investigation into the case.

       "So far only one suspect has been arrested.

       "No weapons were seized from the suspect," he said when contacted.

       Suresh urged the public not to speculate as investigations were still ongoing and bullet casings from the shooting were being analysed.

       On Wednesday, the victim identified as Murali Shunmugam, 36, of Bukit Selambau, was killed after he was shot at point-blank range near a traffic light in Taman Intan.

       He was approached by four men on two motorcycles with one of them firing eight shots in the incident in front of a restaurant in Jalan Bakar Arang.

       He had just entered his car while his wife and young son were walking out of the restaurant across the road.

       Murali died on the spot while his wife, son and a friend escaped unhurt in the 12.30pm incident.

       Kedah police chief Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said Murali was wanted by police for suspected organised crime and drug-related activities, with one pending case under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

       The death is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
