SEGAMAT: Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim visited some of the temporary flood relief centres here following continuous rain that caused floods in several villages.
Tunku Ismail, in a post on his official HRH Crown Prince of Johor Facebook account, said he would continue to monitor the current situation and would act immediately.
"I have visited the relief centres in Segamat namely SK Kampung Tenang Labis, Dewan Pekan Air Panas, Labis, and SJK (C) Ai Chun.
"There are more families moved to the relief centres. Alhamdulillah, necessities have been distributed and the situation is under control," he said in the post Saturday (Jan 1).
He also said he was also currently monitoring the situation in Muar, Mersing, Pontian, and Kota Tinggi.
As of noon on Saturday, 658 people from 192 families have been placed in eight relief centres in Segamat.
The affected villages were Kampung Sermin, Kampung Lembah Bakti, Kampung Pekan Air Panas, Kampung Paya Lenga, Kampung Paya Lebar, Kampung Paya Chinchin, Kampung Tenang, Kampung Sedeng, and Kampung Paya Lang.
Earlier, on Dec 23, Tunku Ismail was reported as saying that the Johor Palace had prepared 4,000 boxes of basic necessities on standby to be distributed if major floods hit the state.
He added that district officers were already aware of their duties in the event of floods in their respective areas.
