KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 153 people from 44 families are still at six temporary flood relief centres in Kedah, Perak and Penang following a sudden deluge in the states.
As of yesterday, in Kedah, two evacuees from one family were placed at SMK Agama Yan while 32 people from six families were in SK Sungai Salleh and SK Selama in Bandar Baru.
“Another flood relief centre, SK Teroi in Yan, which was opened to accommodate Covid-19 patients, is still operating despite zero admissions at the moment.
“The centre at SMK Lubuk Buntar also remains open,” said the state Civil Defence Force in a statement yesterday.
In Perak, 95 evacuees from 29 families in two districts are still being housed at two centres.
“Seven people from one family in Teluk Intan district were evacuated to SMK Smart Batu 8, Jalan Changkat Jong.
“In Taiping, 88 people from 28 families are at the relief centre in SK Matang and they are still not allowed to go home due to the current flood situation,” said a state Disaster Committee Secretariat spokesperson.
In Penang, state Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said 24 people from eight families were still taking shelter at the centre in SK Jawi yesterday, compared to 35 people the day before.
“Eleven people from three families were allowed to go home after floodwaters receded,” he said. — Bernama
