PETALING JAYA: Julau MP Larry Sng has been appointed as the president of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), a multiracial political party launched last month.

       The decision to choose Sng was made by delegates from 12 PBM divisions at the party’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held in a hotel in Sibu, Sarawak on Saturday (Jan 8), reported Sinar Harian.

       Sng said the 12 divisions also put forward a motion for PBM to be a component party in the Barisan Nasional coalition to face the 15th general election.

       The motion was approved by the new party leadership, and further discussions will be held with Barisan’s top leadership soon.

       “This is because we see that PBM can be an multiracial option in the coalition to win as many important seats in the peninsula and Sabah.

       “To top it off, Barisan is proven to have stable party leadership and is deemed the most experienced coalition in managing the country, making our decision to be part of it as the right strategy,” Sng said in the report.

       On the party composition, he said the members are from states all over the country.

       "We have 40,000 members throughout the country. We are receiving new membership applications every day. About 3,000 members of Penggerak Komuniti Negara are also interested to join us," he added.

       Sng also announced the line-up of the party supreme council for the period 2022-2025.

       Aside from Sng, 30 committee members of the new leadership were appointed and chosen in the EGM.

       This included former Selangor executive councillor Haniza Mohamed Talha and former Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat, who were appointed as the party’s deputy president I and II, respectively.

       The vice-presidents are Tebrau MP Steven Choong and Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam, while former Selangor executive councilor Dr Daroyah Alwi was appointed as PBM Wanita chief.

       Former Perak executive councilor Paul Yong Choo Kiong was chosen as the treasurer, read the report.

       Sng, when contacted by Sinar Harian, said the EGM and party appointments were conducted based on a directive from the Registrar of Societies, after PBM’s first EGM held on Nov 14 was deemed incomplete.

       He said the party leadership, delegates and observers have stated their intention to support the government of the day in Malaysia at present.

       “We will also work towards ensuring PBM’s agenda in championing people of various races in this country after this,” Sng said in the report.
