THE Ipoh Hindu Devasthana Paribalana Sabha has received a donation of three vehicles to pull its chariot during the Thaipusam procession this year, Makkal Osai reported.

       Sabha chairman M. Vivekananda said scrap metal trader, Raman Chettiar’s family business, Ren Steel RRC, and SPM Jati Enterprise’s M. Soundarapandian donated the vehicles worth RM155,000.

       The Devasthanam, which manages the Buntong Sri Maha Mariamman temple and the Ipoh Kallumalai Sri Subramaniar temple where the procession will begin, will be responsible for their maintenance, added Vivekananda.

       > Two people were killed while 80 others were injured in a bull run festival in Tamil Nadu, Makkal Osai reported.

       The traditional bull run, which sees specially reared cows, took place in Trici.

       The event, which also takes place during the Ponggal festival, also sees youngsters put their bravery and strength to the test by wrestling the bulls to the ground.

       This year, one of the owners, Meenatchi Suntharam, 29, was leading his bull to the starting point when the animal became agitated and headbutted him in the chest.

       The victim was rushed to hospital but died on the way.

       A spectator identified as Balamurugan, 18, was gored and also died.
