KUALA LUMPUR: The lack of a check-out alert feature in the MySejahtera app saw several MPs seeming to spend the night in the Dewan Rakyat.

       "What is the actual problem with the app (MySejahtera), as there is no alert given for us to check out after checking in?" Fahmi Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai) said when debating the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Sept 20).

       "It is as though some of us spent the night sleeping in Parliament."

       Although there were problems with the current MySejahtra app, he said, however, that there is no need to replace it.

       "There is no need for a 'super app', just improve the existing one," he added.

       On Friday (Sept 17), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had invited feedback from the public on a national super app that would be a one-stop centre for government and selected private sector services.

       On a separate matter, Fahmi said the 5G rollout plan should be scrutinised by a Parliamentary Select Committee.

       "The issue on DNB (Digital National Berhad) and the 5G rollout should be brought to a Select Committee as it involves a huge amount of expenditure and is an infrastructure project for the nation's future.

       "We cannot see it fail," he said.

       He suggested that two consortiums be set up to oversee the 5G rollout, as is being done in Singapore.

       Fahmi also urged the government to provide precise information on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

       He agreed with Dr Lee Boon Chye (PH-Gopeng) that the information should include the actual number of deaths due to Covid-19, those who have died after getting reinfected with the virus, and those who contracted the virus despite having antibodies.

       He said this was crucial as it will allow authorities to better gauge the seriousness of the pandemic and implement measures to tackle it.
