ANOTHER Malaysian singer has “found fame” on the famous Times Square billboard in New York.
Layla Sania, 19, was highlighted on the display on July 20 to represent singers from Malaysia and Singapore for the EQUAL campaign by digital music platform Spotify, Berita Harian reported.
This made Layla the second Malaysian female artiste after singer-songwriter Yunalis Zarai, or Yuna, to be featured.
“This means a lot to my singing career.
“I never imagined seeing myself featured on that digital billboard just like Yuna and a line-up of other international artistes,” she said, thanking Spotify for the opportunity.
“I am very touched and hope this can be an inspiration to other female musicians.
“We have the power to change the world, no matter who we are and where we are.
“Thanks to the fans for the encouragement. Not to be missed are the media who have supported my career since the beginning,” Layla, who also launched her first Mandarin single By Your Side in January, added.
Through the campaign, 35 local playlists representing artistes from more than 50 countries were featured.
Layla has released two singles in Malay, Lakaran in March last year and Que Sera Sera in 2019.
> A tigress that was slashed with a machete by an Orang Asli resident in Kampung Badak, Pos Bihai in Gua Musang is gradually recovering.
The tiger nicknamed Syamilla Bihai attacked Adin Andok, 48, at about 3pm on July 15 in his garden and caused injuries to his eyes, head, thighs and arms, Kosmo! reported.
The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) said the tigress’ appetite had also improved as it had started eating meat.
Currently, Syamilla Bihai is being kept at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC), Sungkai, Perak.
“Syamilla Bihai is also closely monitored by veterinarians from Perhilitan and NWRC staff to ensure that she recovers well,” the department said in a statement on Wednesday.
