An insanely beautiful hidden gem of an island where you can hear Gaelic music in the pubs boasts a 185-mile road of coastal views.

Called the Celtic heart of North America, Cape Breton Island is a rugged and irregularly shaped island on the Atlantic coast of North America and part of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada.

From the 18th century, Gaelic speakers constituted a large proportion of the local population. Although there are no longer entire communities of Canadian Gaelic-speakers, Gaelic culture is deeply rooted in the island.

No matter where you go now on Cape Breton Island, you’re going to hear fiddle music. The Ceilidh Trail region of the island is particularly famous for its Gaelic Culture. One of the best ways to experience this culture is by joining a Ceilidh ‘a kitchen party’, which is a traditional party with music, dancing and often storytelling at a local pub or community hall.
