PASIR GUDANG: A man who jumped into a swollen drain in an attempt to rescue a boy, ended tragically, after both of them drowned.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police were alerted of the incident at 4.14pm on Friday (June 25) that two people had fallen into a drain near a mosque in Taman Cendana.
“Two boys were playing there when suddenly one of them, aged 13, fell into a drain.
“A 32-year-old passer-by then jumped into the drain in an attempt to rescue the boy but both were swept away by the strong currents,” he said in a statement here on Friday (June 25).
Supt Mohd Sohaimi said a search and rescue operation was launched with the help of firemen and members of the public.
“The bodies of the two victims were found at about 6pm,” he said, adding that the drain was about 2m deep.
He said the remains have been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.
