Ismail Sabri: Opening up Parliament in 14 days was opinion of political bureau

KUALA LUMPUR: Opening up Parliament within 14 days was the opinion of Umno’s political bureau and not the supreme council, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“It is unanimous in Umno that Parliament should be reopened but the definition of ‘as fast as possible’ is up to interpretation,” said Ismail Sabri.

“The 14 days stated was the opinion of the political bureau. But the one that ultimately decides is the supreme council and the bureau only suggests,” he said at a press conference at Flat Sri Johor here on Tuesday (June 22).

He added that no decision has been made by Umno yet if Parliament does not open.

“Umno’s suggestion is to have proceedings in 14 days. On what action to take if it does not proceed, we have not discussed that yet,” he said.

The Senior Minister (Security) had visited 59-year-old retired soldier Suria Mohamad Hassan, who had previously been living under the Loke Yew Bridge with his family.

The Minister said that additional aid would be given to him via the Department of Veteran Army Affairs.

A more permanent home for the ex-soldier and his family has also been found, with Sabri adding that they should be able to move in by the end of the week.
