It will provide advice to staff and students on how best to support them.
But appalled Universities Minister Michelle Donelan blasted: “Any university that does this is badly failing in their duty to protect students.
“It is right that vital support is offered to women who are being exploited. However, this course seeks to normalise selling sex, which has no place in our universities.
“We know this is a sector that can target young women and students and trap them in the role.”
One Durham student said: “It’s a very dangerous and risky industry and not something that a university should be promoting as a legitimate form of work.”
But Jonah Graham, of Durham University Students’ Union, said: “Some students who rely on this work face stigma that may prevent them from accessing adequate support elsewhere.”
