THE deputy head of the RAF suspended for "flashing" a family apparently claimed he was "getting his dog's tennis ball".

Sources said Air Marshal Andrew Turner, 54, told cops that is why he "bared his backside" to his neighbour Simon Herbert.

Air Marshal Andrew Turner has been accused of flashing his bottom to neighbours

People close to Mr Herbert, 54, also say his family want Turner to be prosecuted - and they think he got off lightly due to his high-ranking position.

The Sun told today how Turner was seen naked in the garden of his £1.4million thatched cottage in Oxfordshire by stunned Mr Herbert and his partner Lesley Stevens, 52.

He is said to have “bared his bottom” to animal sanctuary boss Mr Herbert, who reported the incident to cops.

Turner was given a community resolution order, meaning he just had to apologise to Mr Herbert - whose 18-year-old daughter also witnessed it.

But sources close to the family say they are going to appeal it - and want Turner to be prosecuted.

One said: "Turner had admitted he was naked to police.

"Simon told cops that Turner had flashed his backside to him, but then Turner said to them he was looking for his dog's tennis ball.

"Simon asked 'where was the dog then?'."

Turner also allegedly told cops that he has taken his clothes of because he was hot'.

They added: “They want him to be treated the same as normal people.

“They think that if Simon had have done the same thing, he would’ve been charged.

“They were told by police they can appeal the community resolution and they plan on doing so imminently.

“They think Turner has been let off because of who he is and his position in the RAF.”

The family were “shocked and disgusted” by last August’s incident.

Married dad-of-two Turner, whose wife Catherine is a teacher, is an ex-special forces commander who had been tipped to become the next RAF chief.

He was suspended from duty around two weeks ago after reporting the police probe to his boss, Chief Air Marshal Mike Wigston.

In his written apology, given to the family on Friday and seen by The Sun, Turner said: “I apologise for any inadvertent and absolutely unintentional upset that may have been resulted from activity on our property.”

Police said: “Thames Valley Police officers were called following reports of a public order incident which occurred at a property in Cane End, Oxfordshire on 10 August last year. Officers investigated thoroughly.

“Given the nature of the incident, following an investigation in which the suspect and the aggrieved were spoken to at length, and following discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service, it was decided that the most appropriate course of action would be to issue a community resolution order.

“This was issued to a 54-year-old man on Wednesday 9 February.”

Turner’s lawyer has disputed Mr Herbert’s claims.
