DGCA developed plan to cope with arrivals rush

KUWAIT CITY, May 8: There was hectic activity at the Kuwait International Airport, which coincided with the end of the Eid al- Fitr holidays as thousands of people arrived after spending their short vacation abroad, reports Al- Qabas daily. The daily quoting reliable Directorate- General of Civil Aviation sources said the agencies operating at the airport had developed a plan to cope with the arrivals rush — 38,000 passengers returned from 50 destinations in two days — and workers in the operation sectors were mobilized to facilitate the smooth fl ow of passenger traffic, as well as to raise the work efficiency and improve services provided, especially by the ground service providers not to delay in handling the baggage. According to statistics prepared by Al-Qabas, the number of flights that operated at the airport during the past two days reached 651, including 326 incoming and 325 taking off.

Cairo, Istanbul, Dubai, Alexandria, Jeddah and Sohag topped the list as the most frequent travel destinations. Sources estimated the total number of returning travelers in two days at 38,000, especially with a number of airlines operating additional fl ights for travelers from Arab and European destinations. The sources indicated that the diversity witnessed by the airport buildings, contributed significantly to reducing congestion in the departure and arrival halls, with the occurrence of some emergency congestion due to the irregularity of flight schedules for some airlines in takeoff and landing, which caused congestion at specific times at some airport sites. In the field, the procedures of the operating devices at the airport contributed to facilitating the movement of passengers, as the number of employees at the gates and transit areas was doubled, and support work teams were standby to overcome any obstacles that travelers may face, and the arrival and departure procedures were shortened by the Ministry of Interior and the General Administration of Customs.

Meanwhile, Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, the Deputy Director for Planning and Projects Affairs and the official spokesman, Saad Al-Otaibi, praised the efforts of all government agencies operating at Kuwait International Airport, led by the Ministry of Interior and the General Administration of Customs, as well as the main role of airlines and ground service providers, in addition to the great efforts made by all employees of the General Administration of Civil Aviation to make the Eid al-Fitr holiday plan a success, reports Al-Rai daily. He explained that travel movement during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, after lifting all health restrictions on passengers, contributed significantly to reviving the air navigation movement in the country, which means that the summer season will witness an unprecedented travel movement, which requires to establish a mechanism with the concerned authorities in Kuwait Airport to implement the full plans and preparations to keep pace with the season, with full and high capabilities to cope with the number of departing and arriving passengers and flights
