Ukraine: Forces recapture Boyko towers in the Black Sea

During the search for missing British ex-soldier Daniel Burke, human remains in an advanced condition of decomposition have been discovered in Ukraine, near to the battle zone.

These remains were discovered by detectives, but they were too degraded to identify visually.

Daniel Burke, a 36-year-old former British soldier, was last seen in Zaporizhzia on August 11, a long way from the nearest frontlines, which are more than 15 miles away.

According to a police source, investigators are keeping an open mind and diligently following up on all leads.

Burke, a former paratrooper from Manchester, had several distinguishing tattoos and had created the Dark Angels group the previous year—a team of international volunteers led by the British.

Russia 'disaster' as it is nearly running out of fuel with crippling war sanctions biting

Russia’s war on Ukraine has led to them nearly running out of fuel and food, as crippling sanctions continue to isolate them.

Since the start of Moscow’s “special military operation” on February 24 last year, the West has slammed Vladimir Putin with sanctions on oil and other key exports.

While Russia has its own supply of oil and gas, state-run media has admitted the country is facing fuel shortages nationwide.

And as firms sell Russian oil overseas to make more money, ministers are warning of a “disaster” for farmers.

Putin dealt huge blow as top paratrooper killed in war and 'suicide squad' obliterated

In a brutal blow to President Vladimir Putin, one of Russia's prominent paratrooper commanders, Vasily Popov, 38, has been killed while attempting to halt Ukraine's counteroffensive, reports claim.

Popov, along with three other officers, is believed to have died in the recent wave of Russian casualties.

Ukrainian forces have been conducting effective and limited counterattacks in the vicinity of Kyiv to disrupt the Russian military's plans to capture the city and alleviate some of the pressure on the capital.

These efforts have proven successful so far, making it increasingly unlikely that Russia will take control of the city.

Before his reported death, Popov had only recently taken charge of the elite 247th Airborne Assault Regiment, leading it for just a few weeks.

British intelligence signals Russia's potential energy infrastructure threat

According to British intelligence, Russia may be planning another attack on energy infrastructure this winter. According to the UK Ministry of Defence, Moscow has likely been stockpiling air-launched cruise missiles (ALCMs) since April, which were a focal focus of its attacks from October 2022 to March. Fewer ALCMs have been deployed since the beginning of spring, and Russian officials have emphasised their attempts to increase cruise missile production.

The MoD Ukraine intelligence update stated: "Russia is therefore likely able to generate a significant stockpile of ALCMs

"There is a realistic possibility Russia will again focus these weapons against Ukrainian infrastructure targets over the winter."

Russian military's 'culture of deception' hindering success in Ukrainee

Lieutenant General Andrei Gurulev, a Russian parliament deputy, has cited a culture of dishonesty within the Russian military as a major obstacle to victory in Ukraine. Gurulev suggests that false reports have led to poor decision-making across various command levels, resulting in Russian troops retreating by up to 10 kilometres in some areas. He also noted that Ukrainian forces are making strategic use of abandoned Russian defensive positions.
