PUTRAJAYA: A recent wedding in Besut, Terengganu has resulted in a new Covid-19 cluster, says the Health Ministry.
The wedding was held at Kampung Gelam Mas on July 15, and the first case was only detected on Aug 11.
The index case is a 28-year-old man who tested positive on Aug 11 after undergoing a screening of close contacts.
After 384 people with links to the cluster were screened, 38 people tested positive for Covid-19.
The cluster is among 31 new ones announced by the ministry on Wednesday (Aug 11).
It is also one of 11 clusters categorised as community outbreaks, which so far has produced at least 311 confirmed cases.
There are also 18 new workplace clusters, with 898 positive cases linked to them.
This includes a construction site cluster at Gerbang Nusajaya in Johor Baru, where 218 are confirmed cases.
It is the largest of Wednesday’s new clusters and the outbreak was detected from a targeted screening exercise.
Another two clusters have been identified as “high-risk group clusters”, including an outbreak uncovered at a nursing home in Kedah.
At least 47 confirmed cases were found among residents and staff of the facility located at Persiaran SP Height in Sungai Petani.
The index case is a 37-year-old man who tested positive on Aug 7 after undergoing a self-Covid-19 screening.
