AN 82-year-old musician was found to have hoarded rubbish of almost a metre high at his home in Seremban, China Press reported.
Volunteer workers from the Persatuan Kebajikan Sayangi Malaysia (PKSM) found the pile of trash believed to have been accumulated by Yan Nan Xiu over 20 years.
One of the volunteers, Li Tian Sheng, said they often brought food for the elderly man but none of them had ever gone into the house until last week when the latter was injured after falling off his motorcycle.
“I was shocked to find his home filled with rubbish to the point it was so hard to open the front door,” Li said.
Ten volunteers from the association then helped to clean up his house on Sunday.
Even after filling up 100 rubbish bags, the volunteers could not complete the task by 5pm, and returned to finish the job.
While clearing the garbage, they discovered a newspaper dating back to 1992 and a rusted trumpet.
According to Yan’s nephew Yan Huang Mei, who was present at the clean-up, his uncle made a living as a musician but stopped two years ago, causing his depression to deteriorate.
“I’ve always kept in touch with him but he never liked people visiting his place. I’d known that his house was cluttered but did not expect it to be in such a state,” the nephew said.
He thanked the volunteers for their efforts, adding that he would not have been able to do it alone.
> Taiwan-based Singaporean singer JJ Lin has returned to his home country to get vaccinated after he posted a photo of himself on a plane recently, Sin Chew Daily reported.
His manager said the 40-year-old went back to be with his family, to get vaccinated and make preparations for his upcoming work in China.
It was earlier reported that due to visa issues, Lin was unable to make it to China to serve as one of the mentors in the reality TV series Sing! China 2021.
