SEREMBAN: Police have reminded the people to strictly follow all Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) following reports of huge crowds at popular tourist destinations in the state, especially in Port Dickson, in recent days.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said failure to adhere to the SOP may cause cases in the state to rise again.
"Please do not get over excited following the re-opening of tourist spots and ignore SOPs.
"We urge the public to practice social distancing and wear masks when they are at public places to prevent the virus from spreading," he said when met at his office here.
Only 156 new cases were reported in Negri Sembilan yesterday (Sept 13), which was the fourth lowest nationwide.
However, the state used to be in the top bracket for the number of cases reported only weeks ago.
Negri Sembilan moved to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan on Aug 26 and Phase Three from Sept 4, allowing locals to travel inter-district.
DCP Mohamad said the situation in Port Dickson which was the top tourist destination in the state was under control.
"I have been in touch with the PD police and was told that they have been monitoring the situation closely.
"I have also asked them to continue working with the local authorities to patrol the popular spots and ensure all holidaymakers strictly follow the SOPs," he added.
As of Sept 13, almost 88% or 711,942 of those eligible in the state had been fully vaccinated.
Earlier, he received a "Thank You" card for all policemen in the state who were among the frontliners in fighting Covid-19 from Tadika Perpaduan Kg Semarak pre-schoolers.
Three pre-schoolers - M. Sathyadevi, Law Jun Kit and Nor Qai Sara Mohd Mazumar, all six - presented him the card which took the 25 children at the centre to make.
The children, who wore their respective traditional costumes, were accompanied by their teachers Rusni Shamsudin and Norzatul Nalis.
