GEORGE TOWN: Six police personnel were remanded after a drug suspect escaped from the Bayan Baru lockup on Tuesday (April 26).
Penang police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the police personnel were remanded for three days to facilitate the investigation of the incident.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the suspect Azizi Mohd Hassan was being held at Bayan Baru integrated lockup after being detained on April 20.
"A manhunt has been mounted after officials realised the suspect was missing," he added.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said he would not compromise with any of his personnel or officers if it was found that they had neglected their duty.
He said the case would be investigated under Section Section 223 of the Penal Code for negligence by a public servant in allowing the escape of a person under custody and Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping from custody.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily urged the public to immediately contact the nearest police station if they came into contact with the suspect.
