A man died in a Hegewisch car crash early Monday and another man was in serious condition after the three-vehicle crash, Chicago police said.

       The driver of a Dodge Journey was traveling north in the 13000 block of South Torrence Avenue on the Far South Side, not far from the 113-acre Ford Chicago Assembly Plant, when he ran a red light and his SUV was struck by a semitrailer truck about 3:10 a.m., according to Chicago police.

       The Journey spun out as a result of the crash, and was then struck by another semitrailer that was headed east on 130th Street, away from nearby Hegewisch Marsh.

       The driver of the Journey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. He had not been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as of Monday. His age and time of death also were not available.

       The driver of the first truck, a 50-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition. It wasn’t immediately clear what types of injuries he suffered; police said they did not have additional information.

       The driver of the second truck was not injured.

       The fatal collision remains under investigation by the Police Department’s major accidents team.
