A Zion man who stabbed a man multiple times and sexually assaulted a woman during a home invasion was sentenced Tuesday in Lake County court to 70 years in prison.
D’Javon Hudson, 28, had been found guilty last month in a bench trial of attempted murder, criminal sexual assault, home invasion and violating an order of protection for his attack on the couple at their Zion apartment.
Authorities said Hudson knew the woman, who resided in the 2700 block of Galilee.
At trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Hudson entered the apartment through an open window just after midnight on Sept. 27, 2017. He then stabbed the man with a knife in the neck, abdomen and chest before he assaulted the woman.
Police said they found Hudson hiding in a space above a closet in the residence, and they also recovered the knife, police said.

The male victim survived the more than 20 wounds he received in the attack and testified at trial.
Judge Mark Levitt presided over Hudson’s trial, which took place in June and July. At Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Levitt gave Hudson consecutive 26-year sentences for the attempted murder and assault convictions. The judge also imposed a consecutive 18-year term for home invasion, and a concurrent three-year stint for violating a protective order.
The pretrial phase of the case had unusual moments. In 2018, Hudson asked the court to call him Xeuxsai-Ali, and said he was invoking “republic law” because Illinois operated under the common law of England.
“I’m just here in human form trying to represent myself,” he said at a 2018 hearing.
Hudson will be required to serve 85% of his sentence, minus credit for the four years he has spent in custody.
