Last night the Duke of Sussex announced he has agreed a publishing deal to write his memoirs, in which he will share "mistakes and lessons learned". Publishers Penguin Random House said the book is an "intimate and heartfelt" account of the events that have shaped him through the years. But the decision to release the book could risk a backlash in the US, as commentators haven't held back in criticising the move.
Piers Morgan, a leading critic of the Sussexes, responded to the news on Twitter and wrote: "You've got to be f**king joking???"
In a second tweet he added: "Ready to tell his story? Prince Privacy hasn’t stopped yapping, whining & trashing his family all bloody year."
GB News presenter Dan Wootton also criticised the Duke, and said: "Me: Surely Prince Harry can’t stoop any lower?
"Revealed: Prince Harry writing bombshell autobiography to lift the lid on the Royal Family. STRIP HIM OF HIS TITLES NOW."
Speaking on GB News, Mr Wootton said Harry has "pushed it too far this time" and called him a "tacky Hollywood star".
Though these critics reside in the UK, Americans could be no different.
Just last week Meghan and Harry were warned their "novelty value" is wearing off in the States.
Australian royal commentator Daniela Elser wrote in news.com.au that the couple need to "prove they are worth the investment" on the other side of the pond if they don't want interest in them to wane.
She said: "The problem with this paradigm is that their entire money-making ability is pegged to their ability to generate good PR.
"Should interest in them wane, or public fatigue for the never-out-of-the-news duo set in, then their value could plummet."
As a result, criticism of Harry's new memoir in the US could be on the horizon.

3.10pm update: Piers Morgan blasts Harry's 'sad and totally unnecessary' move
Piers Morgan has slammed Prince Harry for writing a book about his life in the public eye, after stepping down from his senior royal duties last year.
Writing in his MailOnline column, the former Good Morning Britain presenter said: “Harry's a sell-out, and this is just another example of him selling out.
“It's sad, pathetic, and totally unnecessary, and it will obviously cause yet more pain to his grandmother who is still mourning the loss of her husband Philip.
“But Harry doesn't care about that. Like his wife Meghan [Markle], he doesn't care about anyone but himself.”
