MELAKA: Five investigation papers have been opened by Melaka police over derogatory and insulting comments against Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

       Melaka CID chief Asst Comm Azlan Abu said investigations are being carried out against two individuals for their comments against Dr Mohd Ali on Twitter.

       He said the suspects are a man and woman aged 21 and 35 respectively.

       "The younger suspect is a student and the other is a laboratory assistant at a religious school in Muar, Johor," he said on Thursday (Oct 14).

       He said the two were arrested following a police report lodged on Oct 7 and have been released on bail while their smartphones have been confiscated.

       ACP Azlan added that investigations are being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
