THE world's wealthiest people have amassed almost incomprehensible levels of money.

       From Elon Musk to Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, today's billionaire's are some of the wealthiest people who have ever lived.

       Amazon boss Jeff Bezos overtook Tesla founder Elon Musk earlier this month as the richest man in the world after Tesla stock has declined nearly 10 percent so far this year and Amazon shares have continued to soar, adding 15.4 percent since January 1.

       According to the Bloomberg billionaires index, he's currently worth $177billion.

       At the start of this year, Elon Musk briefly overtook Bezos in January but he's wealth is now at $151billion as of August 1.

       Now third of the list after recently overtaking Bill Gates is luxury brand tycoon Bernard Arnault who owns 70 brands including Louis Vuitton and Sephora, with $150billion

       Microsoft boss Bill Gates' wealth now stands at $124billion.

       Who was top of the Forbes rich list for 2020?

       Each year Forbes magazine publishes its list of the top richest celebrities.

       Here is a look at the top five richest people in the world in 2020.

       1. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos 6

       Bezos turned the idea of selling books online into one of the most lucrative businesses in the world.

       He was worth $113billion (￡79.6billion) at the time.

       Bezos has a 16 per cent stake in the company.

       2. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates 6

       Bill Gates topped the Forbes 2017 list as the richest man in the world with a fortune of $98billion (￡63.9billion).

       The chairman world's largest maker of luxury goods, is the richest man in France.

       He oversees an empire of around 70 brands including Christian Dior.

       Tech billionaire Larry Ellison was fifth on the Forbes list in 2020 with a net worth of $59billion (￡43billion).

       Ellison co-founded the software firm Oracle in 1977.

       He gave up the Oracle CEO role in 2014 and owns about 35.4 per cent.
