Experts say Chicago should be “average” and “pleasant” this week, no longer cool — in terms of temperature, anyway.

       An unusual summer cold front dropped temps throughout northern Illinois for days but forecasters now say dry weather with temperatures in the upper 70s to the lower 80s is expected in the area through Thursday, when warmer and more humid conditions should emerge, according to the National Weather Service.

       The dry, unremarkable summer conditions should stick around until late Thursday when temperatures will warm to the mid-80s, with higher humidity and the chance of scattered showers, said Rafal Ogorek, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Romeoville office.

       “It’ll be pretty pleasant for the most part. We’re not expecting any precipitation Tuesday through Thursday,” Ogorek said. The weather service website described the temperature for that stretch as “generally near average.”

       Later in the workweek, there’s a chance of intermittent showers and thunderstorms beginning Thursday night, lasting through Friday night.

       “It’ll get a little bit more humid as we get toward the latter half of the week. This sort of weather is pretty standard for early August,” Ogorek said.
