KUWAIT CITY, June 29: Kuwait has been ranked as the third-best Gulf and Arab city to live in for the year 2024, according to the latest report by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Globally, Kuwait City secured the 93rd position.

The rankings were led by Abu Dhabi, which claimed the top spot in the Gulf and Arab world and ranked 76th globally. Following closely, Dubai secured the 78th place globally, with Kuwait City trailing in third place. Doha followed in 101st place, while Manama ranked 106th globally.

In economic news, the price of a barrel of Kuwaiti oil saw an increase of 80 cents, reaching $87.94, reflecting recent market trends.

According to The National newspaper, the rankings of Gulf cities, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Jeddah, have risen in the list of the best cities for living in the world. The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index 2024, released yesterday, attributed the improved standings of UAE cities to sustainable investments in health and education. Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai rose two places from last year, achieving high levels of ease of living.

Parsali Bhattacharya, Deputy Director of Industry at the Economist Intelligence Unit, noted, “This year, Dubai joined Abu Dhabi in achieving the highest level of ease of living in our index.” He highlighted strong investment in local infrastructure, education, and health in Saudi cities, aimed at attracting foreign tourists and expatriates, as well as efforts to diversify the economy.

The Gulf region continues to prioritize social infrastructure alongside economic diversification efforts. The World Bank forecasts economic growth in the region to strengthen to 2.8% in 2024 and 4.7% in 2025.

A recent report on Dream Destinations and Mobility Trends found that job opportunities and quality of life are primary factors influencing destination choices globally. Vienna retained its position as the world’s most liveable city for the third consecutive year, followed by Copenhagen and Zurich.

In global rankings, London placed 45th, while Hong Kong rose to 50th due to stability and healthcare improvements. However, Damascus remains the world’s least liveable city, with Tripoli, Libya, only marginally better.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s report underscores ongoing efforts across global cities to enhance livability through comprehensive economic and social strategies.
