Police identify quarantine violators

       PASIR GUDANG: Police have identified two men with pink bracelets in a viral video, which showed them buying food at a restaurant here.

       Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the men were believed to have violated their quarantine order and were recorded buying food at a restaurant at Taman Sierra Perdana in Masai.

       “We have identified the two individuals who are 23 and 46 years old.

       “They are close contacts of a Covid-19 positive patient and were supposed to undergo home quarantine.

       “Based on initial investigation, we found that the incident (in the video) took place at about 8pm on Wednesday,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

       He noted that the duo were supposed to undergo home quarantine from Aug 14 to Aug 24.

       “The case is being investigated under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and they can be compounded RM5,000 if found guilty.

       “The case is also being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code where if found guilty, they could be jailed for a maximum six months or receive fines or both,” he said.

       He added that the police would summon the two men for further investigation after they had completed their quarantine.
