Residents across Victoria are now able to participate in "contactless" outdoor recreation such as boating, tennis or golf and the 10-kilometre travel radius has been expanded, allowing people to travel for exercise or shopping up to 15km from home. Personal training is permitted for up to five fully vaccinated people and additional restrictions on playgrounds have been lifted with normal public gathering limits to apply.

Coronavirus in Canada In response to the Quebec government’s $15,000 bonus incentive for nurses, those in the industry said the offer doesn’t solve the issue of working conditions, particularly the dreaded mandatory overtime that public-sector nurses are subjected to. The province reported 594 new infections and seven more deaths attributed to COVID-19, while hospitalizations have dropped by 15. The Canadian Medical Association is calling for lockdowns in Alberta and Saskatchewan to protect health care systems as both provinces are setting hospitalization records, and intensive-care capacity is being pushed to the limit. British Columbia has brought back a school-wide exposure-notification system in response to parents’ groups that pushed for better disclosure of COVID-19 cases and stricter health measures. Ontario reported 495 new infections and eight more deaths attributed to COVID-19, with 380 of those infections among people not fully vaccinated or with an unknown vaccination status. Newfoundland and Labrador is reintroducing travel restrictions for children under 12. In Ottawa, Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet said any MPs who are not fully vaccinated should stay home from the return to Parliament.

“They get fully vaccinated or they stay home,” said Blanchet, adding that Parliament should not return in a hybrid format now that COVID-19 vaccines are widely available. The Bloc Quebecois, New Democrats and Liberals made it a rule in the federal election that candidates had to be fully vaccinated, but the Conservatives did not. Nurses’ notebook: The collective exhaustion and frustration is being felt by nurses across Canada, 18 months into the pandemic.

Coronavirus around the world YouTube, which has its headquarters in the U.S., announced it will block all anti-vaccine content and ban channels associated with several prominent anti-vaccine activists. And, Pfizer provided health regulators with data from a recent study of its vaccine in children 5 to 11 years old. The vaccine may not be available for kids until November, however. Coronavirus and business Every province has or will soon implement a COVID-19 vaccine passport system, but few can provide guidance to member-based businesses on storing customers’ vaccination status.

For businesses such as gyms or yoga studios, it’s not clear if members need to be screened each visit, or just once, with their vaccination status kept on file. The Globe and Mail asked each province’s health department for their policy on recording customers’ vaccine status. Also today: United Airlines will fire about 600 employees – less than 1 per cent of its workforce – for failing to comply with its COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The company has begun the termination process for its U.S.-based employees.

And: The U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said it is “frustrating” that supply-chain bottlenecks aren’t improving.
