Three people were shot, one fatally, and several others including a child were rescued following a shootout Friday on the West Side that sparked a SWAT situation, according to Chicago police.

Information about the dead person was not available immediately.

Tactical police officers were in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue about 10:30 a.m. when they spotted four people exit two vehicles and begin shooting at a home at the Mason address.

When people inside fired back, they shot one person, who later died at a hospital. The other people outside the home then sped away in two vehicles, police said.

Two people inside the home were shot. One of them was a male of an unknown age who was taken by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Chicago fire spokesman Larry Merritt said.

The other, also a male, was taken to a hospital by Chicago police officers, Merritt said.

Meanwhile, the attack sparked a SWAT response, which was called off about 1:30 p.m. when no one was found barricaded inside the home.

Authorities “safely removed” a man, a woman and a child from the home while police located two cars — one burned out at Chicago and Lockwood avenues and the other crashed in Oak Park, where one suspect was arrested.

Two additional people who were inside the house were arrested, police said.

Earlier, an emailed statement from police said the scene remained dangerous. “Stay safe,” the email read.

No charges have been announced and Area 5 detectives are investigating.
