TOKYO -- A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck in the Sea of Japan on the evening of Sept. 29, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The 5:37 p.m. quake, which struck at a depth of 400 kilometers, registered a 3 on the 7-point Japanese seismic intensity scale over a wide area of Japan including Saitama, Ibaraki, Fukushima, Iwate, Aomori and Hokkaido prefectures. There were no immediate reports of damage, and the temblor did not pose a tsunami threat, the agency said.
