PUTRAJAYA: Close to new 20,000 recoveries from Covid-19 were recorded, leading to another day of recoveries surpassing new infections.
On the sixth day of such a record, 19,702 people were discharged yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 1,917,088.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 2,142,924 after recording 14,990 new infections, including five imported cases.
Selangor recorded the highest daily figure with 2,414 new infections, followed by Johor (1,880).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 14,985 local cases, 13,763 involved Malaysians.
“There are 618 cases needing intensive care,” he said in his daily update.
They comprised 393 Covid-19 patients and 225 patients who are either suspected, probable or cases under investigation for Covid-19.
Sarawak reported 1,712 new infections, Kelantan (1,573), Perak (1,490), Penang (1,224), Sabah (1,199), Kedah (1,007),Terengganu (852), Pahang (688), Kuala Lumpur (338), Melaka (313), Negri Sembilan (170), Perlis (97) and Putrajaya (30). Labuan reported three new cases.
The ministry also identified 26 new clusters, taking the active number to 1,308.
Of the number, 13 of the clusters are related to work places, seven community clusters, one involving high-risk groups and five education-related clusters.
A total of 5,354 clusters had been identified since the pandemic broke last year.
He reiterated the importance good ventilation and air quality to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“Ventilation in all types of buildings such as workplaces, business premises, educational institutes, places of worship and residential must be looked into,” he said.
