TOKYO -- Giant panda twins Xiao Xiao, male, and Lei Lei, female, born in June at Ueno Zoological Gardens in the capital's Taito Ward, have started to live with their mother Shin Shin.

       Until now, while one cub was being cared for by their mother, the other had spent time in a nursery room. Shin Shin is apparently taking care of the two cubs in a calm manner, such as breastfeeding them at the same time.

       According to the zoo, the twins were put into their mother's room on the morning of Oct. 23. Though it was the first time for Shin Shin to meet the two of them at the same time since giving birth, she apparently accepted them without any surprise. The zoo will continue to support the pair while giving artificial milk to the cubs as needed.

       The twins are growing steadily four months after their birth, with Xiao Xiao weighing 7.3 kilograms and Lei Lei weighing 7.55 kilograms as of Oct. 25. They are getting better at walking and also playing together. It was confirmed on the same day that Xiao Xiao was following the staffers' moves with his eyes. Lei Lei is reacting in the same way, and it seems that their vision is improving.
