TOKYO -- Ueno Zoological Gardens in the capital's Taito Ward is accepting suggestions until Aug. 20 for names for giant panda twins born at the facility in June, with the final decision set to be made by a selection committee.

The names can be up to nine characters in katakana for both the male and female cubs. Each person can only submit only one suggestion for each cub. Applications are being accepted via a box set up at the zoo, at Tama Zoological Park, and via Ueno zoo's official website at: https://www.tokyo-zoo.net/zoo/ueno/ (in Japanese). All applicants can receive a free wallpaper image.

The two cubs are growing steadily. The male panda weighed 1,818 grams and the female 2,088 grams as of Aug. 5 -- over 10 times their weight at birth. A representative of the zoo said, "We would like for you to think up a name that will be loved for a long time."
