KOTA KINABALU: A man was injured when he tried to help put out a fire at his neighbour’s house in Kota Belud district on Saturday (Nov 20).
The man, in his 20s, had come into contact with some live wires during the 10pm incident at Kg. Suang Punggur.
Kota Belud Fire Station chief Syazwan Latun said the victim was helping to put out the fire with the other villagers using buckets of water and hose pipes prior to the arrival of firemen.
“We received a call about the fire at 10.28pm and a team was sent to the scene,” he said, adding that the house was fully engulfed in flames when help arrived.
He said the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment after the incident.
Syazwan said the victim was reported to be in stable condition while no one else was injured in the fire.
The fire was brought under control at 11.19pm and operations ceased at 11.50pm.
“The cause of the fire is still being investigated,” he said.
