KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is working with the National Security Council (NSC) to develop ventilation guidelines regarding the reopening of gymnasiums, and also on allowing outdoor team sports, says Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).
“This will not take long but because of the nature of indoor fitness centres, we must stress certain ventilation requirements. Working on it urgently,” the Health Minister tweeted yesterday.
Saying that good news would be announced soon, he described the request by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu for outdoor team sports to be allowed as “justified.”
“The minister is indeed concerned about the sports sector,” Bernama reported Khairy as saying.
Earlier on Twitter, Faizal urged Khairy to allow gyms and outdoor sports facilities to reopen following the government’s recent announcement that cinemas would reopen from today.
He suggested that gyms and outdoor sports be allowed to reopen with a strict standard operating procedure in place.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had previously announced that cinemas in states that were in Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) would be allowed to operate at 50% capacity beginning today, with only those having completed their Covid-19 vaccination doses allowed to enter the halls.
