THE UK Government’s suggestion that schoolchildren across the country sing a song celebrating “strong Britain, great nation” on “One Britain One Nation Day” has been met with mixed responses.
The national day on June 25, 2021, has been described by the Department of Education as being about learning “shared values of tolerance, kindness, pride and respect”.

The OBON campaign was reportedly launched by West Yorkshire-based former policeman Kash Singh, in 2005.
Despite the campaign having been around for some time, the song, which the OBON group claims was written by schoolchildren in Bradford, is new.
The lyrics are as follows:
Chorus:
We are Britain
And we have one dream
To unite all people
In one great team (repeat)
Verse 1:
Our nation survived through many storms and many wars
We’ve opened our doors, and widened our island’s shores
We celebrate our differences with love in our hearts
United forever, never apart
Chorus:
We are Britain
And we have one dream
To unite all people
In one great team (repeat)
Verse 2:
So many different races, standing in the same place
So many different faces, moving at the same pace
We all stand together with pride in our hearts
United forever, never apart
Chorus:
We are Britain
And we have one dream
To unite all people
In one great team (repeat)
Outro:
Strong Britain, Great Nation
Strong Britain, Great Nation
Strong Britain, Great Nation
Strong Britain, Great Na-a-tion.

According to the Department of Education, the song is about learning “shared values of tolerance, kindness, pride and respect”.
The campaign group behind the song - One Britain One Nation - is, according to its website, aiming to create a “strong, fair, harmonious and proud British nation”, celebrating patriotism and respect for all British people.
The group has said it wants to provide an organisation through which all citizens of Great Britain can openly declare, demonstrate and celebrate their passion, pride and allegiance towards its nation.
On OBON day, which will take place on Friday, June 25, OBON is calling upon schools to “celebrate the day in the spirit it is intended”.

It’s unclear how many schools will take part, with the organisation not being government-affiliated.
The song, and the plan for a OBON day, have come under fire for a multitude of reasons - one of these being that the day is scheduled for when Scottish schools have broken up for summer.
